I admire all who can see into the mysteries of things. Who can divine from the plainness of what is and the beauty of what could be.

BRAD TOWSLEY
American, born in 1975
Lives and works in Phoenix, Arizona
Brad Towsley is a contemporary American ceramic artist whose hand-built work involves exploring the materiality of clay, its texture and ever-changing composition, form and abstraction.
The artist’s work focuses on redefining human interaction with non-functional vessels, sculpture and expanding textural concepts as it relates to form. Brad Towsley also has a formal education in graphic design & visual communication. This intersection of two creative pursuits has been beneficial in how he approaches ceramic work as it helps in visualizing and effectively conveying spatial relationships and dimensions. While the creative process of graphic design is different from working with clay, the same principles and elements of art is constant. Through his dialogue with this material and lateral thinking, he strives to visually showcase compositional arrangements, spatial thinking and aesthetics. This approach reflects his view of spatial themes and how a three-dimensional piece or sculpture can bestow all the visual components of form.
Brad Towsley invites viewers to pause and reflect on the craftsmanship of the work and the sensory experience that ceramic provides. Moreover, to recognize his journey of working with clay is like an extension of his own human experience shared with you.
“It’s like witnessing the physicality of time in the natural world, and my work allows me the ability to contribute a piece of myself, a voice beyond my own brief existence. It’s a physical manifestation of my engagement with the world- as such, my work, and I, will continuously interact and remain on the planet both while I’m here and long after I’m forgotten and gone. I like that.”
